It pairs a striking claro walnut top with a lightweight two-piece roasted butternut body, finished in natural nitrocellulose lacquer so the grain shows through, and sets it off with a gold anodised aluminium pickguard.

Tone & Construction

The roasted butternut body is light and resonant, and the claro walnut top adds warmth and definition. Three hand-wound Custom Shop '60/'63 single-coils, with a reverse-wound middle pickup for hum-cancelling in positions 2 and 4, give a classic early-60s Strat voice. Vintage Modified Strat #2 wiring puts a tone control on the bridge pickup, and a Tone-Saver treble bleed keeps the top end clear as you roll back the volume.

The medium-roast AAA birdseye maple neck is carved to Fender's '63 C profile and topped with a dense African blackwood fingerboard. A 9.5" to 12" compound radius, 21 narrow jumbo frets and a bone nut make it as comfortable for chording as it is for bending high up the neck.

Appointments & Case

Vintage white knobs and pickup covers, clay dot inlays, a vintage-style synchronised tremolo and vintage-style tuners keep the look classic. The small headstock carries the transition logo, with the Custom Shop V logo on the back. It comes with its original Custom Shop hardshell case and certificate of authenticity.

Condition

Good condition, with light play wear consistent with careful use.

Highlights

Fender Custom Shop Artisan Series, 2018

Claro walnut top over a roasted butternut body

Medium-roast AAA birdseye maple neck, '63 C profile

African blackwood fingerboard, 9.5" to 12" compound radius

Hand-wound Custom Shop '60/'63 single-coils with Tone-Saver

Gold anodised aluminium pickguard

Original hardshell case and certificate of authenticity

Specifications

Body: Two-piece roasted butternut with claro walnut top

Finish: Natural nitrocellulose lacquer

Neck: Medium-roast AAA birdseye maple, '63 C profile

Fingerboard: African blackwood, clay dot inlays

Radius: 9.5" to 12" compound

Frets: 21 narrow jumbo (6105)

Nut: Bone, 1.650"

Scale length: 25.5"

Pickups: Custom Shop hand-wound '60/'63 single-coils (RWRP middle)

Controls: Master volume, tone (neck/middle), tone (bridge), five-way switch, Tone-Saver

Bridge: Vintage-style synchronised tremolo

Tuners: Vintage-style

Pickguard: Gold anodised aluminium

Case: Custom Shop hardshell

Paperwork: Certificate of authenticity

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1022/9940/2578/files/fender-custom-shop-artisan-claro-walnut-stratocaster-01-front-body_1.jpg?v=1792154525
