2025 Martin 000-42EC Eric Clapton 30th Anniversary, Adirondack Spruce & Guatemalan Rosewood

This 2025 Martin 000-42EC Eric Clapton 30th Anniversary is one of just 300 instruments built to mark three decades of Clapton's partnership with Martin, a relationship that began in 1995 with the original 000-42EC run of 461 guitars. Modelled on the 1939 000-42 Clapton played on MTV Unplugged, it is the flagship of the anniversary releases and carries a paper label hand-signed by Eric Clapton himself. Martin has now retired the model, so from here on examples will only come through the secondary market.

Tone & Construction

A solid Adirondack spruce top with antique toner is paired with solid Guatemalan rosewood back and sides, widely regarded as the closest modern match to the Brazilian rosewood of the 1939 original. Golden Era scalloped Adirondack bracing lets the top move freely, giving the 000 body far more volume, headroom and low end than its size suggests, while keeping the balance and articulation that made the 000 Clapton's shape of choice. It is as rewarding for fingerstyle as it is for strummed rhythm work.

The genuine mahogany neck is carved to Martin's Authentic 1939 profile with a slightly narrower 1 11/16" nut and 24.9" scale, joined with a traditional dovetail. The bound ebony fingerboard carries Golden Era 42-style snowflake inlays in select abalone, and the guitar was Plek-set at the factory for a precise, comfortable action.

Appointments & Case

Full 42-style appointments throughout: abalone top border and rosette, Style 45 Golden Era back strip, Waverly relic nickel open-gear tuners with butterbean buttons, an ebony 1930-style belly bridge with long bone saddle, and bone bridge pins with abalone dots, all under a vintage gloss finish. It is supplied in an embroidered Harptone hardshell case with a matching shroud exclusive to this model, along with the printed certificate of authenticity and a spare set of Clapton's Choice strings.

Condition

As new, unplayed, collectors condition. Supplied with all original case candy, including certificate of authenticity, shroud and spare strings.
