2023 Martin Custom Shop Limited Edition Eric Clapton D-45, Madagascar Rosewood
This 2023 Martin Eric Clapton D-45 is one of just 25 built by the Martin Custom Shop in Madagascar rosewood for Guitar Center's 2023 Crossroads Collection, created with Eric Clapton to mark 25 years of the Crossroads Guitar Festival. It recreates the 1968 D-45 Clapton played during his Derek and the Dominos era, and carries a Custom Shop label signed by both Eric Clapton and C.F. Martin IV. It is offered as new, in mint collector's condition.
The Crossroads Collection
Guitar Center developed the collection with Eric Clapton, Martin, Fender and PRS, and a significant portion of the proceeds from each guitar went to the Crossroads Centre Antigua, the treatment centre Clapton founded. Alongside a single one-off Brazilian rosewood version, Martin built only 25 of these Madagascar rosewood examples, originally sold only in North America.
Tone & Construction
A Sitka spruce top over Madagascar rosewood back and sides gives a deep, powerful dreadnought voice, with rich bass, a crisp ring and a clear top end. The mahogany neck has a 1 11/16" nut and 25.4" scale, with an ebony fingerboard, ebony bridge, and bone nut and saddle.
Appointments & Case
True to the original 1968 guitar, it is dressed in Style 45 abalone purfling and rosette, white binding, abalone hexagon fingerboard inlays and a black pickguard, all under a gloss finish. The bound headstock carries a Madagascar rosewood overlay with the vertical abalone C.F. Martin logo, fitted with period-correct gold Grover tuners.
It is supplied in a replica hardshell case stencilled "Eric Clapton Group", complete with a "handle with care" warning in the style of an old road case, together with its certificate of authenticity.
Condition
As new, in mint collector's condition.
